Recently reclassified as Thaumatophyllum xanadu, this plant originates from Brazil. The xanadu can grow to 1.5 metres in height and have a spread of 2 metres when grown indoors, it has long elegantly thin green stems that end with dramatic lobed leaves. Established xanadu plants have a beautifully patterned woody ‘trunk’ that adds interest and contrast. It prefers bright indirect light but can tolerate slightly shadier spaces. During the growing phase, do not allow the soil to dry out completely and water once the top 3-5cm of soil dries out. During the winter months, when the plant is not growing, allow the soil to almost dry out before watering.
